Larry Plummer was born in New York City and is a product of New York City and New Jersey public schools. After graduation from high school, he enrolled in Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduated with a BA in English/Secondary Education. To fulfill his dedication to public service, Dr. Plummer enlisted in the US Army as a private and after graduating from Officer Candidate School, was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
After completing studies at Seton Hall University School of Law and graduating with a Juris Doctorate degree, he entered the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps. He retired from duty as a part-time military attorney with the army reserve JAG Corps after twenty-two years of service with the rank of lieutenant colonel. In civilian life after graduation from law school, he became an assistant deputy public defender. He served in this position for five years, then left to enter the private practice of law. He specialized in school and education law.
After ten years in private practice, Dr. Plummer entered the full-time profession of pedagogy. He returned to school and obtained his MA in educational administration and supervision and his EdD in educational leadership from Kean University. He served for a year as a substitute teacher, four month as a part-timer, and eight years as a teacher of language arts. He was elevated to vice principal and served this capacity for five years in high school, three years in middle school and one year in elementary school. He was then elevated to school principal.
Dr. Plummer has mentored new and junior educators. As an attorney, he has tried more than one hundred cases while in the public defender’s office and in private practice. He is presently engaged in the private practice of law and is a member of New Jersey State Bar Association, school law section.
